FAQ

V1 has some PLA blended in the compound whereas V2 (through later R&D) are products without PLA and are home compostable.

For wholesale we typically recommend 3 pallets and above. For quantities below, we would use our webstore.

Yes. Our Sugarcane Straws are certified to be 100% compostable. Please visit our Certifications page for all of our certifications and registrations with independent third parties.

Our Original (V1) Sugarcane Straws are made of sugarcane fibers, known as bagasse, and binders such as polylactic acid (PLA) which we derive from sugarcane and cassava. Our Version 2 (V2) of Sugarcane Straws do NOT contain any polylactic acid (PLA). When requesting information or quotes, please note which version you desire.

Our Sugarcane Straws are guaranteed and third-party tested and certified to not contain the following plastics or plasticizers:

  • no polystyrene (PS)

  • no polyethylene (PE)

  • no polypropylene (PP)

  • no polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

  • no polyethylene terephthalate (PET, PETE)

Our Sugarcane Straws can be reused several times if properly cleaned and stored, though they are intended to be a one-time use product.

No. Our Sugarcane straws should pose no issue to those with diabetes or glucose-sensitive conditions. Once the sugar is extracted from the sugarcane crop, the remaining plant fibers are then processed into pellets to create our sugarcane plant fiber straws. The straws are made in a way where it's certified food safe and does not impart its composition in any foods or liquids it comes in contact with.

Our Sugarcane Straws contain natural sugarcane fibers where each small batch will have a variation in color due to the mixing of red sugarcane and white sugarcane fibers. The plant fibers in each Sugarcane Straw can be seen when held up to a light source so you know they are made from real sugar cane.

Yes, our straws are gluten-free. The sugarcane plant is a grass and does not contain any gluten.

Our Sugarcane Straws should be stored in a cool and dry environment away from sunlight. Heat and humidity will eventually affect its durability and performance.

Our Sugarcane Straws should be used in cold or lukewarm liquids. It has been shown to work to some degree in hot drinks. However, we do not recommend its usage in hot liquids as this can affect the Sugarcane Straw’s durability and performance.

If no composting bins are available at your location, please discard them in the general trash bin which may take longer to degrade naturally compared to commercial composting.

Our Sugarcane Straws will not become soggy like paper straws, has a smoother texture, and will not impart any paper taste or flavor. Our Sugarcane Straws do not have any coatings and we do not use any dyes — which are common characteristics in paper straws.

Metal straws cannot be composted, cannot biodegrade, and (unfortunately) is not a cost-effective solution for many businesses. Although reusable, which we definitely love and encourage, metal straws still involve the mining of heavy metals themselves, which entails a whole host of environmental impacts such as pollution. Our Sugarcane Straws do not impart a metallic taste when drinking, is safer to use for those that need soft straws, and our straws do not stay cold when drinking iced drinks.
